Should I buy a battery tender for my boat?

keeping battery @ full charge way full life span. batteries allowed discharge or kept @ lower charge state length of time become increasingly difficult restore full capacity.

maintenance charger chosen have quality one, if charger not reduce charge when battery reaches full charge damage occur quickly. simple voltage detector chargers problematic many types of batteries, unit should reduce current in line rising voltage battery absorbs charge. low, slow charge far more useful hard high current belt. have found 10 - 20 watt solar panels perfect keep battery bank topped - regulator higher wattages if no possible drain exists. (a 10 watt panel large starting battery safe unregulated - needs diodes prevent battery drain overnight should fitted standard. remember there 4 hours day of full current solar panel set in 1 position.) make sure batteries disconnected of bilge pumps, fridges etc. - assuming boat on hard other wise bilge pump must remain connected. use c-tek brand extensively on commercial boats, rescue vehicles , boats , privately. don't trust cheap asian stuff - 1 boat extensively burnt out when k-mart special caught fire here couple of years ago.
