think interesting philosophies can thoughtfully engage in , analyze , critique, , hence i'd if you're starting out, should build faculties critical thinking before dipping many philosophies--- because once can more critical, you'll find own interests better articulated. me, interesting philosophy puzzle challenge , attempt solve. need tools.

thus, i'd start david hume, pretty epitome of skepticism. 'dialogues , natural history of religion good, , 'an enquiry concerning human understanding' pretty seminal. hume makes pretty absurd points, thinking solid, , attempt refute him (by kant) pretty shifted modern philosophy post-modern philosophy. hume shows arguments based on our certainty of --- cause , effect--- can held suspect, , philosophy necessitates amount of creative thinking , critical thinking progress.

fantastic philosopher entirely different hume jose ortega gasset. he's 1 of favorites, , while still disagree tremendous portion of proposes, he's great writer , 1 of best advocates of continental philosophy out there. politics dodgy (he supported aristocracy) prose tends generalize humanity beautiful. work 'on love' defines love philosophically better else i've ever read. check out 'revolt of masses' , 'man , crisis', both of quite good.

hannah arendt under-appreciated philosopher (and 1 of few women philosophers out there, sadly) thinking top-notch, although gets bit difficult read @ times. focused on social , political philosophy, , place start work 'between past , future'--- not fascinating of stuff, lays out see.

check out albert north whitehead's 'science , modern world', gives decent comprehensive scope of interactions between philosophy , science, , how these distinct modes of thought have shaped each other.

list of course incomplete, think authors can provide enough understanding of skepticism, continental philosophy, political philosophy , relation between science , philosophy better find own way interests you.

lastly, beware of faux-philosophy, mean 'opinion pieces' or political tracts or works on 'spirituality' masquerade philosophy dropping few quotes philosophers here , there while advocating position. if can hone critical thinking, these should easier discriminate on.
