An old '03 monitor...DIES?!?

hello,
recently, 6 year old dell monitor has stopped working.
unplugged monitor while (to move console part of room). when plugged back, green led went green amber, usual. when pressed key out of sleep mode, didn't respond. turned off, reason, 2-3 seconds after pressed button, that's when light turn off. what's causing delay? what's causing not work?
