My 1984 Pontiac Trans Am's battery keeps on killing and it is not the alternator, any ideas?

have 1984 pontiac trans , every time drive battery becomes depleted , electrical systems go out. had mechanic put used alternator in , replaced battery thinking old battery not taking charge. new battery killed hour later drive. put refurbished alternator in car isn't giving battery charge either. quick , not extremely thorough lookover nothing seems awry wiring figure must culprit. ideas on or other things may cause this?
