How do you know if you're genuinely funny enough to be a stand-up comedian?

knew pretty funny gal (not sound conceited, @ all), in past year, i've had several people tell me should stand-up comedy. 1 of whom brother, admire , think far funnier me, , several of others grad students @ theatre program attend school (i'm theatre major). performed scene in 1 of classes today, real-life story written , performed me, , rolling time finished. 1 girl crying laughing hard.

though barely mild stage fright acting, there stand-up comedy feels i'd crossing whole new territory. maybe it's vulnerability of putting out there own material, combined worry maybe aren't funny? don't know...

so, question is, how know if you're funny? guess don't want somewhere , flop horribly, because folks know think i'm funny.

suggestions, comments, etc welcome , appreciated! :)

p.s. if you're going suggest go watch stand-up comedians, don't worry...i've been watching stand-up comedy years, , huuuuge fan of it! :)
