no. prius battery designed last life of car. have 2 prius, 2001 , 2004. both on original batteries. there kinds of fud being spread prius battery life don't own one, facts failure rate extremely low. lower found in automatic transmissions. toyota warranties battery 150,000 miles in ca emissions states , 100,000 miles elsewhere. older generation prius (2001-2003) hasn't had half batteries replaced yet, mean time between failure rate isn't known.

way nimh battery life works if charge , discharge battery you'll 300 cycles. however, if never charge , discharge it, limiting how far can discharged can millions of cycles. consumer appliances use batteries have cheapest possible charging system, 3 years can expect, prius has extremely sophisticated charging system.

prius never allows battery above 80% or below 40%, , gets extremes. chemicals in battery wear out, doesn't happen until fifteen years according experts.

if replace battery, it's costs $3,000 including installation. similar cost of transmission replacement in old fashioned car. cost of replacing battery has gone down every year.
