Mazda mx-6 - Erratic Temperature gauge?

couple weeks ago car overheated. turns out water pump bad. replaced that, plus added brand new (and expensive) coolant.

well, have erratic temperature gauge. drove school , (100 miles) , temperature gauge kept bouncing , down, before halfway hot.

replaced thermostat, , it's still erratic. problem? there no sign of oil in coolant or coolant in oil.

no leaks, either.
