Is it worth getting a Toyota Prius?
- because it's part electric there more problems?
no, there less problems. toyota has replaced many of parts found on old fashioned car more reliable electronics or else vastly simplified them. instance:
no starter motor.
no alternator.
no belts (in 2010, there 1 belt runs water pump in 2004-2009).
no clutches or fluid couplings (a fluid coupling automatic equivalent of clutch).
transmission it's hundreds of pieces has been replaced simple planetary gear set similar differential.
motors braking brake pads last long time.
air conditioner compressor electric 1 in home.
, don't worry battery, it's designed last life of car. warranty 150,000 miles in ca emission states , 100,000 miles elsewhere in practice battery lasts far longer (even if battery should need replacing it's not expensive, $2200 , price has been going down every year). mtbf of battery isn't known because there aren't enough prius out there yet 300,000 400,000 miles on them.
- backseat seems bit narrow
prius hold 4 full sized adults in comfort. it's mid-sized car. 5 tight squeeze, doable slender people. if carry more, you'll need else--perhaps highlander hybrid.
have 2004 on 100,000 trouble-free miles. lifetime average on 100,000 miles 56 mpg (this taken logbook, not couple of vacation trips). before bought prius had vw tdi. engine blew @ 80,000 miles , every service cost small fortune (usually $2000, on $1000 because had broken on it). small lightweight engines , 23:1 compression don't go together. not mention fact battery shorted out every year , vw diesel had towed or host of other problems had it. never again.
, don't buy bunk "toyota has fly parts in, etc." every car company if poses problem, no car qualify. sour grapes don't have one. 25 years ago said same things radial tires.
don't worry recycling battery either. toyota pays bounty of $200 on each 1 make sure recycled.
ultimately, you'll have decide whether or not prius meets needs. no vehicle if won't need do. prius owners have second vehicle (usually older) use when hauling or carrying many people. vehicle drove before purchasing prius.
this may stupid question, i've loved toyota , i'm thinking of getting prius because a. it's toyota b. it's hybrid c. mpg amazing
because it's part electric there more problems?
