Hi. how does the tax system work in the USA?

1. go out , make money.
2. give money government.

(ok, kidding, sure seems way!)

united states of america has multilevel taxation system. studies in field of public administration has found americans prefer lots of little taxes instead of 1 big tax. so, americans taxed in variety of ways, , several different levels of government.

first, there 4 different levels of government, i'll list them in order:
1. federal
2. state
3. county/parish
4. city/district (includes school district, water district, , other special districts.)

now, here of more common taxes:

income - federal , (but not all) states have own income taxes. individuals , businesses required file tax return every year, , taxes being drawn regularly paychecks (or businesses, paid quarterly.) taxes "progressive", governments giving breaks people earn less, or have children care for. income taxes on federal level 10% 35% , state 1% 10%.

sales taxes commonly charged many (but not all) states. states' taxes low, while others, california's tax, 9%. taxes charged on sold consumers, except unprepared food. so, raw food (not hot/fast food) , items resale not taxed. cities , county's tack on own sales taxes special projects.

property tax charged on owns property - county/parish level, though in many cases, state may collect money , redistribute money counties/parishes.

vehicle tax - many states , cities make money through tax on vehicles. also, fuel taxed federal , state levels.

hotel tax - charged cities usually, on tourism.

specific item taxes - things government wants discourage, alcohol , tobacco, may have government taxes on them. also, specific taxes may added services, phone , cable bills. these taxes come different levels of government.

hope helps, basically, government looks sorts of taxation. sometimes, government makes money through non-tax revenue sources, state's lottery game or federal post office. luck!
