Regarding aircraft what's ETOPS ?

etops stands extended-range twin-engine operational performance standards. set of standards allow twin engine airplane fly longer distance between alternate airports. used allow 2 engine airplanes make trans-oceanic trips. before etops, airplanes required have 3 or more engines make trips alternate airports >60 minutes away.

etops operations require special certification airplane , airline. airplane manufacturer has prove airplane can fly specified amount of time alternate - commonly 120 or 180 minutes - 1 engine shut down. airline must train flight crews perform such operations , ensure airplane on special etops maintenance program perform such operations.

i have ofter heard aircraft needing etops long haul flights havent clue means !!
