Question on health care. England of Canada only please?

few years ago, in outskirts of small city in northern british columbia (canada), broke leg during blizzard of extremely slippery snow. slipped on way house.

first members of volunteer fire brigade. couldn't offer more blanket , reassurance on way. (no medication until paramedic had confirmed vital signs.) (i hung on blanket during whole procedure, , treasure day.) came ambulance. paramedics made sure wasn't in shock, etc., , gave me laughing gas pain, splinted leg, , took me hospital, given morphine , demerol, , put on gurney await further treatment.

because of extreme weather, there many people broken bones. because mine relatively minor injury, wasn't treated quickly. under circumstances, made sense me wait, drugged , sedated, until more serious cases treated. next me, example, young man who'd been in motor accident being treated. because of injury, wasn't clear whether he'd paralyzed waist down, or neck down.

in situation, more recently, @ work when noticed losing vision in 1 eye. friend drove me hospital. wait @ emergency ward trivial. when diagnosed retinal detachment, medi-vaced vancouver treatment. time got airport, small plane ready. (the same 1 use political vip travel.) within hours, having laser surgery eye doctor (who taught opthamology in ubc school of medicine.)

paid ambulance service (about $50.) otherwise, transportation, medical , hospital services, , medication, covered our provincial medical plan. part of cost comes insurance premiums families pay. if have low income, premium paid them. rest comes out of taxes pay. people - members of large religious communities - choose 'opt out', in case, responsible own expenses. under 'pharmacare' system, required pay first $300 each year of prescription medicines. after that, costs covered.

when person know had severe bipolar breakdown, spent several months in hospital psychiatric ward, @ no charge.

when in other countries, our medical costs covered @ same rate @ home. visitors canada expected pay own medical expenses. (but people show @ emergency ward never turned away financial reasons.)
