2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT turns over but won't start.?

2001 pontiac grand gt won't start. rumbles normal dies when try start it. also, when did run rpms jump 2 3 no reason, , make car run jerky. , when if slowed down low speed or stopped die , i'd have start up. upon starting , moving again rpms jump again wouldn't die again, would. after mile or 2 run fine. , other day when tried start it, made sputtering sounds , sounds reminded me of backfire popping sound. when start , pump gas try , start, lights kinda fade in , out, car shakes, makes stuttering sounds , dies. i'm @ complete loss.
