HP Printers Not Printing Black?

switched desktop laptop computer. had printer hooked desktop , printed laptop using network connection. being college student , moving around, decided rid of bulky desktop school year.

had buy new printer usb cord printer. since whenever print in normal black color it's either in gray or doesn't show @ all. i'd assume ink empty, if print no bold, doesn't show @ all. it's not faded, non-existent.

tried 2 different hp printers , got same results (both full black ink). problem wire connection? there have been no problems @ color, black.
