What are the advantages of a single engine fighter aircraft such as the f-16 oppose to a twin engine aircraft?

advantage of single engine on twin simplicity , lower cost. also, bit of efficiency, 1 large engine more efficient 2 engines of half power, other things being equal.
has nothing speed. supersonic flight, important aspect aerodynamics related, in presence of suitable engine air inlet (most of thrust in supersonic aircraft comes inlet, engines pump relieve internal pressure. may sound weird, way is).
if 1 wants install double power in otherwise identical aircraft, plane may able speed faster, top speed may not change much, dominated other restrictions, materials instance. f-104, instance, among few other single engine supersonic aircraft, had restrained , throttled down @ high speed, have otherwise reached speed structure not stand, mechanically , thermally.
having 2 engines having 2 hoses pulling carriage; horses may go faster if load heavy, light load, run @ top speed, , no more.

flying @ mach 3 means first , foremost having air intake able supply engine right air flow @ speed. in turns means air intake not great @ speed less mach 3. unless variable intake, complex, heavy , costly solution.
, have have airframe (wing , fuselage) fly @ mach 3, able fly reasonably @ 150 knots, because plane still has able take off , land @ reasonable speed.

super high speed not of use fighter. @ mach 3, evading missile (turning) takes couple of zip code area. moreover, since airframe basking in own kinetic heating, becomes interesting infra-red emitter, missiles have little trouble locking (i.e. not engine emitting heat).
mach 3 makes sense if sneaking above (spying), or dashing through (bomber) @ altitude interception unlikely. dogfighting, needed large wings , high thrust weight ratio, provide quick acceleration , fast turn rate.

wouldn't 2 engines faster , safer? if f-16 can go around 1300mph why not put 2 of engines on aircraft? push towards mach 3? speeds high not effective in fighter?
