individualism idea individual has sole responsibility one's success or failure. opposite of statist collectivism, states government has responsibility distribute wealth everyone, regardless of personal efforts. states based on individualism tend have lower taxes , fewer social programs. tend have less stagnant economies , more innovation in industry , business. united states before new deal example of individualistic country. european socialist states examples of more collectivist governments.
