What engines would fit into a 1995 subaru liberty?

('90-'95) 2.2 non turbo best choice. make exhaust outlet on heads has same number of ports: 2 hole exits, 1 (on '96 , later). 2.5 engine not take intake manifold or exhaust , later ones had different bell housing bolt patterns (the later 2.2s well).
sidenote, shortblock on 2.2 more 350,000 miles proper maintenance, might want have competent subaru mechanic re heads new head gaskets, valve seals, , valve job go many more trouble-free miles (or kilometers!).

ive got 95 liberty , engine might on way out soon. wondering if knew of bigger, more powerfull engine fit car little, or preferably no modification needed.
