sec. 91.21 - portable electronic devices.
(a) except provided in paragraph (b) of section, no person may operate, nor may operator or pilot in command of aircraft allow operation of, portable electronic device on of following u.s.-registered civil aircraft:
(1) aircraft operated holder of air carrier operating certificate or operating certificate; or
(2) other aircraft while operated under ifr.
(b) paragraph (a) of section not apply --
(1) portable voice recorders;
(2) hearing aids;
(3) heart pacemakers;
(4) electric shavers; or
(5) other portable electronic device operator of aircraft has determined not cause interference navigation or communication system of aircraft on used.
(c) in case of aircraft operated holder of air carrier operating certificate or operating certificate, determination required paragraph (b)(5) of section shall made operator of aircraft on particular device used. in case of other aircraft, determination may made pilot in command or other operator of aircraft.
