Why do dogs smell each other butts?

there joke brother made , said this:

once upon time, there dog party...every dog went elegant there ties , dresses.each dog had put there butt on nail sticked wall.
every dogs having fun....dancing..getting crazy...
light went off, , every dog scared , looked there butt. because light went off couldn't see or recognize there own butts.and tried smell or track there butts couldn't there butts because other dogs took each others butt didn't belong them, late , every dog got confused....

, that's why dogs smell each others butts...because there trying find there own butts.
