Why do Christian Universities require multiple philosophy courses for all students?

have 3 friends go 3 different universities have strong catholic affiliations. although none of friends majors have philosophy, have take multiple courses in philosophy. 1 has take 18 credits of philosophy. go university isn't affiliated religion, , doesn't require courses in philosophy. many students @ school take fulfill requirment, can take else fulfill it.

have taken philosophy course, , anti-religious. why religious schools encourage/require students take courses contrast want them believe?
