Are vans good in the snow?

i'm looking buy new vehicle , i'm not sure for. live in eastern washington , winters hefty amount of snow turns pretty gnarly slush on road. i've been looking getting kind of subaru wagon, don't want i'm oregon! ha! mentioned vans in winter, don't know. can hear advice?
