2001 subaru impreza rs gear selector broken.?

have 2001 subaru impreza manual transmission. today driving , went switch third gear, gear selector didn't stop in third gear , hand kept going until fingers hit radio. car in 3rd gear gear selector flopping around everywhere when moved it, when moved gear selector felt loose, bumping things inside, attempted move around , hook onto 2nd, able in order @ least home. wrong it? link in selector broken or something? , if so, how fix it? (btw, car has 200k miles on can imagine reason why break)
