When did the U.S start producing new aircrafts for the military?

honor of organizing first aircraft factory in united states may belong edson gallaudet, who, in 1908, organized first aircraft engineering office, modern general dynamics corporation claims ancestor. in 1910, established gallaudet engineering company build planes under contract. reorganized gallaudet aircraft corporation in 1917. first mass production craft 1918 production of curtiss floatplanes. db-1 , db-1b, built after war , planned day bombers, never reached production stage. company sold major reuben fleet of newly formed consolidated aircraft in 1923.
