What is this bizarre aircraft that I saw flying over Stony Brook, New York?

experimental aircraft called rutan long eze, designed burt rutan. many versions flying, original vari eze defiant slick knock-off called cozy iv.

if looked bit more conventional might have been piaggio avanti, business-corporate aircraft jet-like performance. http://www.piaggioaero.com/en/products

it's wings curved @ smaller angle. if flying low (helicopter height) , had loud engine. going @ same speed commercial aircraft you'd see in new york.
