If you were in a Sail Boat and had a fan on the boat with you?

idea behind blow allow fan blow sail , boat move forward, fails. imagine stood , hands pushed mast forward, boat move forward? in either case trying use 2 opposing forces move boat , in both cases forces counteract give net result of zero.

difference between 2 part of wind fan not captured sail boat move backward.

best turn fan away sail , blow forward on fan power alone.

if in small sailboat , there no wind blowing had decent sized fan in boat you. think blowing fan sail make move anywhere? give me sort of information or example why think or not work.
