How would you start an amateur photography business?

before start venture, need research. know take legally run business in city , province/state? need licenses? insurance? bonds?

type of photography going offer, , there demand it? competition? advantage going on them? price? quality?

know photography? exposure? if not, pick book bryan peterson's understanding exposure. heck, if know exposure, pick anyway , read it. bet you'll learn something.

computer savvy? you're going spend lot of time in front of computer using adobe photoshop cs2 (or new cs3). if you're serious endeavor, don't mess other software; photoshop king of hill reason: works, , works well. learn actions , scripts, , make own reduce time you're spending doing post-processing (editing).

remember this: every hour you're spending in post-processing, you're not spending shooting. , shooting money comes from.

if you're looking @ "holy grail" of photography--wedding photography--do , brides big favor , find pro shoot under (aka "second shoot") learn things. might not find local pro willing train you, direct competitor; such, may have drive distance find shoot for.
