RC aircraft newbie...I have some questions?

okay, live on farm, father turned 60, , started home business that's starting take lot of time, sold off cows few weeks ago. well, thing is, have 45 acres of unused farmland(albeit rough) sitting there , saw ad rc planes.

i'm looking kind buy.

websites @ recommend buying "trainer" planes or fixed pitch helicopters.

well, know that's ideal, don't want spend 100$ on , once hang of week or later, not able other fly around, , have spend 150-200 dollars on more advanced one.

i'm asking is, okay if start out 4 channel helicopter or jet rc plane? should plane or helicopter?

i've played flight simulators before, know basic flight physics, know i'll inevitably crash few dozen times while i'm learning(and few more after that).

other questions are, capabilities of these things, , kind of runways need?

can take off on grass/gravel? how much(average) runway space need? how many feet remote control reach(average)? how durable they(and material sustain beginner's inevitable crashes?).

finally, fun things once hang of it? how weight can helicopters/planes carry(average)?
