How many hours is low for a used boat?

how maintained more important in long run.

i've seen boats on 1,000 hours stil in shape. , i've seen boats less 100 hours junk.

, age consideration.
boats wood , fiberglass construction. no matter how cared for, moisture works way wood. , weakens it.
i've seen great looking older boats rear end rotted away. motor ends ripping free, of boat still attached it.


full day on water many boaters 4 or 5 operational hours. if go 6 times week, thats 30 hours year tops.


way buy quality used boat too:
1. water test it.
dont buy used car without taking spin around block. shouldnt buy boat way. because starts , ildes nicely on land, shifts gears , doesnt mean work in water.
, doesnt mean wont sink either.

2. mechanical inspection.
take marine service center , have 1 performed. cost $50-100. give boat full once on , test everything, including compression test tell basic motor condition.


if both of those, , passes on both, buying boat capable of providing many years of enjoyment.
if maintained point on.

1 more key thing remember, when last service?
, how many hours/years has impeller been in it?
impellers heart of marine engine cooling system. if fails, easy blow motor.
3 years or 100 hours. when in doubt of last replacement, change it.
before fails , leaves stranded on water. possibly after overheating motor point of failure.
