If philosophy is dead, why are there still philosophers?

academic philosophers in continental tradition see philosophy dead in association postmodernism, i.e. it's form of literature alone , there no successful grand narrative. presumably believe ethics dead, part of philosophy. however, since they're of opinion, why don't give careers , become window cleaners or novelists? shouldn't lobbying departments closed down?
