well, sounds though haven't been studying subject, means need start beginning. need basic textbook on history of art. unfortunately, these long. commonly used 1 helen gardner's "art through ages," should available in library. see site below.

second provides list of common media in arts. follow links.

aside survey texts, books (and online sites, too) deal specific periods, styles, , movements, national art, , individual artists. without knowing you've been assigned write about, it's hard me you.

perhaps repost question , make more specific. of assistance.
