What is the difference between poetry and prose ?
in bible dictionary poetry has been defined "the measured language of emotion" latin word poetria poetry , poeta poet. in classical latin poetria means "poetess". poetry piece of literature written in meter; verse. prose resembles poem in respect , in form , sound. latin prosa (oratio) means straight forward (discourse)(without ornaments of verse) prose noun means 1. ordinary speech or writing without metricall structure. 2. commonly expression. 3. roman catholic church ----a hymn of irregular meter sing before gospel . . .prose , poetry differ in following aspects. ....1. poetry more rhythmical ,formal , metered in terms of structure compared more ordinary prose. 2. poetry more expressive , attractive opposed usual dull quality of prose. 3. lines considered basic units of poetry ,whereas sentences fill exact same role in case of prose. 4. generally, poetry has rhymes , relationships between words opposed absence in prose.
