Printer offline help?

if actual printer has message on says "offline" button, possibly diamond shape line in middle. not circle line thru (that's power). if doesn't make go online, unplug , plug in (cycle power). reset error may have put offline in first place. again, if it's kind of physical problem, won't help.
now, if "offline" message coming computer...totally different. first need list of printers up...this varies depending if xp or vista or other, can't specific. right click on printer, see if there entry says (something like) use printer offline. if so, click on entry, , should fix that. if isn't that, check cable (usb) printer computer. if securely connected, try usb port on computer.
next time...list o/s, list printer mfg. -- makes easier.
