2002 pontiac sunfire over heating?

brought 2002 pontiac sunfire 135,xxx miles on it. had checked on family member , had mixed green coolant dex cool. 50/50 on whole "dont mix dexcool other self" many different opinions. past weekend drove 70 miles , pulling friend's house temp gauge shot , check guage light came on. however, didnt smoke or shut off saved! thank god! had friend @ next morning , apparently previous owner severly neglected cooling system in car. have since ran 2 radiator cleaners thru it, replaced top hose, , thermostat. losing coolant crazy! lastnite filled , within 9 hrs woke checked again , put in lastnite gone! @ whits end! need solution asap 21 year old student , dont have $$$ keep throwing away.. have read on forums , can definatly isnt mixing oil nor oil milky or , i've bled system air out of it.. smell of stuff horrible. smells old vinegar mixed rusty smell.. enough turn stomach. taking dad in couple days see if water pump im thinking whatever issue is, forcing coolant out of reservior on overfill tank. here reaching out yahoo community.. pls help!
