Applying 4 financial aid, need help on question.(4 guys,it has to do with selective service)?

gisu:

if you're not yet 26 years old, don't have problem. can elect register right there on fafsa application. if answer "yes" question, you'll authorizing department of education pass information on selective service registration.

if older 26, you've got serious problem - had know failing register come bite somehow, , it.

law, exemptions follows:

in armed forces on active duty
not yet 18 @ time of completing fafsa
born before 1960
citizen of republic of palau, marshall islands or federated states of micronesia
non-citizen first entered after turning 26
non-citizen entered on non-immigrant visa , remained in under visa until after turned 26
incarcerated, hospitalized or institutionalized entire period between ages 18 through 26

part of fafsa evaluation process, department of education automatically confirms registration status selective service. if agency reports not registered, must either register, or provide evidence of exemption category. if older 26, not permitted register @ point, leaving 1 option you...

qualify aid after 26th birthday, must able document did not "knowingly , willfully" fail register. document claim, must write selective service agency request "status information letter" addressing failure register. can fill out request going http://www.sss.gov financial aid department must receive letter, , use information in making determination whether knowingly , willfully failed register. can warn difficult demonstrate otherwise.

if financial aid department find knowingly , willfully failed register, not eligible federal student aid, , determination non-appealable. it's entirely discretion of school.

luck - hope works out, if not, it's going lesson sorely learned.

what reason why failed register selective service upon reaching age 18 , before reaching age 26
