Why do most poets think uber-complexity makes their poetry better?!?

after commenting on set of poems earlier thought , thought worth addressing. [ yes copy/pasting part of answers lol ]

lot of poets out there imo need ease on enigmatic style , overuse of complex words.
readers don't want read poetry requires them open dictionary several times or read poetry enigmatic, reader must "decode" it's meaning through deep analysis.

face it, if people have hard time understanding poetry, not many people going it. not has high iq , can understand term "my estranged deviant companions". other simpler variations of line more acceptable average iq.

once saw quote on allpoetry.com said along these lines "it unnecessary use complex word simpler 1 suffice".

not overly complex words turn people away being enigmatic , overly metaphoric too.

instance line.

"orbs of lightning dashes of beautiful obsidian.
blades of grass on horizon of twin suns.
flicker in awe of them. "

metaphors speaking of beautiful eyes gorgeous set of black eyelashes.
did figure out? no, bet tricked picturing black sunset wavy blades of grass mirrored lake. or perhaps several other possibilities.

because obsidian black glassy rock, people don't know obsidian is, why use it? why not black or dark?

being overly-metaphoric leads to. non-poetic readers don't care kind of poetry whether admit or not. call "jigsaw poetry" , don't care myself.

there nothing wrong saying.

"a set of beautiful flowing eyes
black lashes blades of grass
flickering in awe of them"

makes poetry no less powerful if used complex variant stated earlier.

why this? effect expression use words average person doesn't know? confuse people?

understand poetry expression in words , nothing more. once go public poem hoping reviews subject whether or not enjoyable average person.

in other words, if poem meant make sense or small audience, it's pointless ask opinions of public.
