What do u have to carry on a boat to make it legal?
personal flotation devices:
- boats less 16ft: 1 approved type i, ii, iii or v (must worn) pfd each person on board or being towed on water skis, tubes, etc.
- 16 not more 65 ft: 1 approved type i, ii or iii pfd each person on board or being towed on water skis, etc.; , 1 throwable type iv device. ( type v pfd may used in lieu of wearable pfd if approved activity in boat being used. type v hybrid must worn legal.)
bell, whistle
- every vessel less 65.6 ft. (20 meters) in length must carry efficient sound producing device.
- on federally controlled waters, every vessel 65.6 ft. (20 meters) or larger in length must carry whistle , bell. must audible 1 nautical mile.
visual distress signals (coastal waters, great lakes & u.s. owned boats on high seas)
- boats less 16ft: required carry approved visual distress signals night-time use.
- 16 not more 65 ft: must carry approved visual distress signals both daytime , night-time use.
fire extinguisher (must coast guard approved)
- boats 16ft less 26ft: 1 b-i type approved hand portable fire extinguisher. (not required on outboard motorboats less 26 ft in length if construction of motorboat such not permit entrapment of explosive or flammable gases or vapors, , if fuel tanks not permanently installed.)
- 26 less 40 ft: 2 b-i type or 1 b-ii type approved portable fire extinguishers.
- 40 not more 65 ft: 3 b-i type or 1 b-i type plus 1 b-ii type approved portable fire extinguishers.
ventilation (boats built on or after 8/1/80)
- boats 16ft not more 65 ft: @ least 2 ventilation ducts capable of efficiently ventilating every closed compartment contains gasoline engine and/or tank, except having permanently installed tanks vent outside of boat , contain no unprotected electrical devices. engine compartments containing gasoline engine cranking motor additionally required contain power operated exhaust blowers can controlled instrument panel.
ventilation (boats built before 8/1/80)
- boats 16ft not more 65 ft: @ least 2 ventilation ducts fitted cowls (or equivalent) purpose of efficiently , ventilating bilges of every closed engine , fuel tank compartment using gasoline fuel or other fuels having flash-point of 110 degrees or less. applies boats constructed or decked on after april 25, 1940.
back-fire flame arrestor
- boats 16ft not more 65 ft: 1 approved device on each carburetor of gasoline engines installed after april 25, 1940, except outboard motors.
these federal requirements, each state may or may not have own requirements. best check on state state basis. hope helps answer question!
i need know u have carry on boat make legal flares,whistle etc. need know cuz plan on takein boat out can ive looked on internet find , cant find it
