Why do aircrafts have elevators on the top of the rudder?
answer has number of design factors.
"t" tail it's called has number of advantages. in case of q400 primary reason "t" tail it's out of way of exhaust of engines, , turbulence of wings. in non-"t" tail design wings of aircraft situated near bottom of aircraft engines underneath. means elevators situated @ bottom of tail, in fact near top of fuselage, out of way of turbulence wings , exhaust of engines. q400's design, high-wing design chosen. because high-wing design inherently more stable, , allows shorter take-off distances. high-wing design place wings , engines directly in front of traditional placement of elevators. so, q400, elevators placed @ top of tail, out of way.
hope answers question.
