What techniques do publishers use to advertise their books? (Im ready to publish and just want to know)?

i've read many books on publishing , self publishing , im writing 9 novels already. 1 ready published. have seen steps whenever see advertising step, never explains techniques.

how advertise book? in paper, poster? what? , how far can go advertising? commercial or something?

techniques use because want best possible deal advertising(no matter cost) make sure book making pretty penny(not saying nice. dont crush dreams)
