option 1) give on car, sell whatever little can, , use money buy car. option gives least amount of work do, gives worst return. little money car, , replacement car not cheap.

option 2) rebuild engine (if possible; you'll want talk mechanic can trust). depending on how engine got locked up, simple replacing rings , bearings. difficult boring(drilling) out cylinders melted pistons out. option wildcard, best outcome going cost fair bit, unless can have family member or friend reduced price.

option 3) source local junkyard replacement engine. 3.1l v-6 in car common , not unique car. in fact, shares basic block, heads, intake , exhaust manifolds, of mounting points, bellhousing pattern, , electronic controls 2.8l v-6 , 3.4l v-6 common in lot of other gm vehicles well. in addition, these engines can purchased in as-is, runnable condition couple hundred dollars. , backyard mechanic worth (or her) salt able engine car , running in no-time. if have friends ok mechanics, best option. however, want stand-test engine pull junkyard (that is, have run on engine stand @ least few seconds) before install it. reputable junkyard should able this.

option 4) buy crate engine. works option 3, except getting complete engine warranty. problem expensive option ends still owning car.

if me, choose option 3. however, 1 of backyard mechanics who's worth salt.

1 other thing might want bear in mind: engines don't munch themselves. times outside makes happen. 1 of coolant fittings broke , lost coolant, or water pump might have let go on you, or radiator might have sprung leak, might want have mechanic take around engine bay make sure nothing broken cause that. though have heard 3.1l least reliable engine of line, still pretty reliable.
