PRINTER PROBLEM ADVICE PLEASE?

hi using vista , need delete printer keeps showing has documents in middle of printing showing have bought new printer cant seem new 1 , running
old 1 hp desk jet wont go have tried delete on documents freeze have restarted laptop many times there time when in printer section of control panel
advice please how can permanently delete printer , documents can re install new 1
