1987 Pontiac 6000 i4 engine issue, someone able to help?

ok, own 1987 pontiac 6000 inline 4 iron duke engine. today while driving through rain, car stall out. starts right , drives fine until reach 30 mph, sputters , stalls out. after fifth time of this, started car , idles high in park until gas applied, idles fine. once put reverse or drive, stalls out. after letting sit while, car runs , drives fine in gear , @ speed. cause of kind of behavior?
