Did my Mercedes-Benz Radiator Blow Up?

have 1996 mercedes-benz e300d. driving down interstate today, out of clear blue sky, saw mist on windshield. peered towards heavens, there nary cloud there - when noticed sweet coolant smell coming green (!!) fluid under hood. first thing - had car in @ local independent mb shop remove stuck glowplug ($2300, pleaseandthanks ). apparently must of put wrong coolant in, , while don't understand metallurgical problem of using "green stuff" i've heeded admonitions here , used zerex g-05 stuff. i'm not sure if contributing factor problems.

@ rate - checked hoses , don't appear have holes or tears or anything. there large concentration of coolant suspended (kinda sponge) within radiator itself, leads me believe radiator's blown itself. i've felt while vehicle runs bit hot, above halfway mark, @ idle way there, i've never let red , make sure it's below red before turning car off. live in florida , it's hot , got impression here coolant gauge "is real indication of temperature" , shouldn't worry long seems stay out of red zone.

@ point of happening, had pulled of side of road in shoulder program gps, , laying gas in acceleration merge other traffic. engine speed may have contributed predicament.

i'm wondering - analysis correct, blown radiator? there way test using diy supplies? have air compressor , common tools. there chance (probably original) radiator had become plugged somehow, , caused higher operating temperatures generally, , failure finally? extend green fluid have caused issues?

if it's determined have radiator issues, i'm trying source replacement. there couple of cheap used ones on ebay, $150. gasoline versions of car - e430 think. assume fit body, fit engine , provide adequate cooling power diesel? radiator develop issues on time , need replaced generally? mine had 200k on it. there advantage buying new one, , if autohausaz.com still supplier? of stuff used oem, i've noticed that's no longer case (at least it's not listed oem). selling brand "nissens" , current radiator behr.

insight can provide!!
