Commuting from Alameda. Is it a good place to live in the bay?

unemployed...yep. lot of guys. it's hard find place before knowing i'll working. i've decided move alameda (i've been staying friend free...but can work long). i'm wondering how people living there commute. i'm assuming i'll work in oakland, san francisco, richmond, etc. can take public transit because know driving here can hell. input nice. looked @ union city (far), san leandro (cars broken in front of complex), oakland (not terrible), , piedmont (super expensive). im praying job within 5 months...that's when savings done
