Does an Aviation Maintenance Officer actually work on aircraft?

thanks. figured. might enlist , try , guaranteed mos of aviation mechanic. i'm graduating in may prestigious liberal arts college (top 10 in country) degree in humanities i'm mathematics minor. i've been around automotive engines whole life (my dad , grandpa love classic cars). thus, think i'd enjoy being aviation mechanic , @ it. also, i'd college loans paid back, , trained in technical field relate civilian job, if didn't stay in , make career. thinking sound on this?

does aviation maintenance officer work on aircraft? or oversee enlisted men work on aircraft? i.e. turning wrench or watching enlisted men turn wrenches? reason ask: i'm thinking of applying navy or marine ocs , thinking of possible mos.
