How are Marine Corps aviation officers assigned to specific aircraft?

know marine corps offers contracts guaranteeing seats in flight school. if marine officer passes flight school, how have in choosing aircraft flies? pilot decide between fixed-wing or rotary wing? also, happens if pilot fails flight school? can revert second choice mos (ex: infantry), or marine corps decide on officer's mos based upon needs of corps?
