let d₁, r₁, , t₁ variables going upstream , d₂, r₂, , t₂ variables going downstream.

see that:

d₁ = r₁t₁
==> t₁ = d₁/r₁.

and:

d₂ = r₂t₂
==> t₁ = d₂/r₂.

since t₁ = t₂ given, see that:

d₁/r₁ = d₂/r₂
==> 8/r₁ = 15/5
==> 8/r₁ = 3
==> r₁ = 8/3.

therefore, boat moves 8/3 km/h in still water.
