01 Toyota Corolla check engine light is on, emission test due?

have 2001 toyota corolla , did tune less 1k miles ago, anyways took car inspection , failed, mechanic said not ready, because had change battery have retest again in couple of days, check engine light on again after did tune up, there way pass test , sticker??
took car autozone , said scanner not detect anything??
first report show that: obdii system failed gas cap integrity.
whats coming going expensive car repair & ready re-test?

have car emission test done in 2 weeks or else pay $300. need rid of check engine light, need pass. i'm in texas way
