Connect TV and Monitor to Computer?

bought 42" 720p plasma tv in hopes of connecting computer. wanting use monitor (yes, video card has 2 dvi outputs). i've run problem i'm sure has easy fix (or hope), whenever connect both tv , monitor neither work, when connect tv works fine. i've been using dual monitors quite awhile.
i'm trying connect monitor, use primary , connect tv , use has secondary monitor. issue i'm having doing appreciated.
