Paint wooden handles of old garden tools?

when ever apply paint finish bare wood should first use primer,this base finish paint stick , seals grain.for best results light sanding , cleaning of surface should give great results.and applying paint easy sponge while wearing rubber gloves,try method , surface little effort.two coats of finish coat best.enamal used paint of choise ,but of new acrylics tough enamal..an epoxy base might option .

i painting wooden handles of gardening tools...all original paint has worn off...do need prime or can apply semi enamal paint bare wood...or need prime first...what best way paint handles
