My Canon MX310 printer will not scan properly:-?

canon mx310 printer not scan properly:-
when printer installed (with vista ultimate) works ok, i.e. printer, copier, scanner & fax.
when printer machine turned off , on again (with computer still on) scanner no longer work. print , copy still work ok.
error message “cannot communicate scanner. cable may disconnected or scanner turned off.”
if uninstall , re install printer driver, works ok, until switch printer off /on again. same problem occurs. cables not touched or disturbed.
tried connecting printer other 5 usb ports, no avail.
printer cable only1.5m long.
connected , installed printer onto second computer (which has windows xp) , scanner works time regardless of being switched off/on, guess there wrong main computer , not printer scanner itself.
canon desk understanding, not offer solution. have latest printer driver.

have older epson stylus rx650 printer scanner, when connected main computer works , scans ok of time. rather use canon.

hope can of assistance.
