choices here include 2 period pieces ("the young victoria"; "sherlock holmes"), 1 sci-fi flick w/ cgi ("avatar") & elaborate musical ("nine.") oops; left out "the imaginarium of dr. parnassus," i've never heard of. so, of saw film, speak up. use eyes & ears determine winner. did think sets? backgrounds? award goes art director & set decorator, emphasis on category on how movie looks & sounds. if wanted root against "avatar," dismiss based on fact it's scifi film w/ cgi (pardon me 4 repeating myself) & deride cartoon "transformers." if 2 & choose period piece "the young victoria" & admire costumes & visual depiction of europe in 1900s, sound pedestrian. think "avatar" win lot of oscars. don't think has win 1 specifically. likelier win oscar original score. 82nd oscars take place march 7 on abc.
